About Us

Trees Please! was established in 1996, born of a conviction that our planet needs more trees. Trees Please! aims to give back to the earth what has been taken from it – trees and their potential to release life.

With a rich legacy of passionate, inspirational and dedicated owners, Trees Please! most recently came under the ownership of Shara Curlett and David Walsh, in late 2014.

While Shara and Dave had been interested in owning a small business for a while, it wasn't until Trees Please! presented itself that they knew they had found the right one. Once they learned about the ethos and purpose of the business, they realised that it fit unspoken criteria that they were looking for - an environmentally friendly product that aimed to give back to our beautiful land, and a business with a sustainable focus.

At the time Shara was working for the NZ Business Excellence Foundation as the National Services Manager and Dave as Financial Controller for an international IT company. While Dave has continued on in his role and provides financial oversight for Trees Please!, Shara now works full time - dedicating herself to preserving the amazing legacy that the former owners have created.

More about Shara...

I've had quite a diverse background, with a career spanning over 12+ years in business improvement and management roles, after studying business, design and marketing in Dunedin. I was also in the fitness industry for many years studying holistic health and functional fitness. My green fingers have been passed down from my mum who is an avid gardener (a master at creating amazing gardens in tiny spaces!), and my late grandad (poppa) who was a very clever and creative gardener. Although he was rather unimpressed when I pulled out his freshly planted Manuka trees as a toddler (but I was helping with the weeds?!). My love of business has most definitely come from my dad, an entrepreneurial man with a wealth of knowledge. However having been down the corporate path, I'm now very passionate about the environment and particularly sustainability in business. I look forward to growing Trees Please! from strength to strength, with a core focus on maintaining the high level of customer service instilled by Ruth Flynn, former owner. If you have any feedback, improvements, product or tree suggestions, please do let me know, I'd love to hear from you!

More about Dave...

(We're working on a picture!).
I'm an accountant, currently the Financial Controller of an international IT company. I had incredible and grounded role models for operating a business from very early days, having grown up with parents that grew a very successful business out of nothing. Aside from accounting, I've also studied marketing and travelled the world, spending a fair bit of that time in Canada. This has given me a weatlh of diverse experience and knowledge to offer in supporting Sha with Trees Please! I share her passion in owning a business that gives back to the environment and hopefully one day will be working in the business alongside her. Oh, and I'm also a Taranaki boy, which means I love the outdoors...and enjoy a good challenge!

Our Commitment to the Environment and our Local Community

Trees Please! has always had a strong commitment to our environment and our local community, in particular our schools. Like our trees which go on giving, we like to help give a little back to help our future generations and do what we can to support them.

When my sister's very dear friend passed away suddenly, I wanted to help to ease her pain and was feeling quite useless. Flowers just weren't enough, as they would be soon gone and everyone gives flowers! I wanted something unique, sustainable and extra special that she could look at to remind her of her friend. I was delighted when I found Trees Please!, it ticked all my boxes. I contacted Ruth and her team and they quickly came back with suggestions for suitable trees for Christchurch, even offering suggestions about what would be suitable to keep in a pot and how tall they would grow etc. I was kept up to date advising delivery details and when the tree was due to arrive. My sister loved it, she is not a gusher or raver but just absolutely loved the presentation, the tree, the whole idea. So a BIG thank you to Ruth and her team at NZ Trees Please! I will definitely keep trees in mind for Christmas.
